» Cumulus To Close Citadel Deal: The long-anticipated, $2.4 billion acquisition by Atlanta-based Cumulus Media of Citadel Broadcasting has been approved by shareholders, the FCC and the Department of Justice. The deal adds an estimated 225 stations to the approximately 346 Cumulus already owns. The deal also includes Citadel Media, a leading radio network which develops and distributes a variety of programming, along with several shows from ABC. Citadel shareholders approved the merger this morning, and it will close tomorrow (9/16).

As a result of the merger, Cumulus welcomes 36 Citadel Country stations to the 52 it currently operates, giving it two Country outlets in Dallas (KPLX & KSCS) and Nashville (WKDF & WSM-FM) and eight in the top 50 metros. The deal includes several other leading stations such as KIIM/Tucson, WIVK/Knoxville and KATM/Modesto, CA. Combined, those 88 stations reached 7.7 million listeners per week in Fall 2010, generating $193.4 million in revenue. To comply with regulations, Cumulus plans to divest WCAT/Harrisburg (CAT 4/12). Effectively immediately, all email addresses for the former Citadel employees shift to first.last@cumulus.com.
