» It's 1 After A Quarter: Despite what RAB President/CEO Jeff Haley calls a "static spot environment," radio's diverse revenue strategy helped broadcasters deliver the industry's sixth straight quarterly uptick in revenues, rising 1% to $4.581 billion during Q2. That performance gave radio a 2% gain for the first half of 2011 to $8.364 billion. For the quarter, digital was up 18%, off-air gained 5%, network improved 3%, but spot dollars were down 1%. For the first six months, digital advanced 19%, off-air was up 7%, network posted a 2% increase and spot revenues were flat. Growth during the first half of 2011 came from the Automotive, Television/Network/Cable Providers and Retail categories, with gains also in the Insurance, Financial and Beverages sectors. In Q2, Comcast Cable was radio's leading spot radio advertiser, followed by McDonald's, AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Walmart, Safeway, Coca-Cola, Chrysler, Home Depot and Pepsi.
